The Different Types of Trophies

Awards are given to achievers in various sectors and occasions such as academic institutions, corporate events and sporting events. Awards are bestowed to recognise an individual or a team’s excellence in a particular field. Among the most popular kind of awards that are given to outstanding people include medals, plaques, certificates and many other types of token. But the most common of all these awards is the trophy.

A trophy is regarded as a high form of award and has been in use since the early times. We can say that the trophies in the ancient times take the form of chalices. These chalices were once given to victors of various sporting events of the time.  Chalices were commonly made out of silver and are usually very expensive.

Today, trophies are more affordable and can be mass produced without difficulty or compromising quality. Because we now live in the modern times, where we have more events in need of awards and other recognitions, trophies have evolved both in design and material.  We now have a wide variety of trophies to choose from, depending on the event or the type of trophy that is required.

The Different Types of Trophies

The design of trophies nowadays depends on the occasion where they will be given. For example, during a basketball tournament, it is not surprising to find that the trophy is designed like a basketball player, or anything that represents basketball in general.

Trophies can be made from various materials such as glass, gold and silver, in addition to other modern substances.

Resin trophies – these are generic trophies that can usually be custom made to suit an event accordingly.

Perpetual trophies – these are the type of trophies that only belong in the winner’s possession for a certain time. Trophies like this are given to winners to be kept for a season until the next games are held and new (or the same) winners are proclaimed.
